What is Toastmasters?

A global community dedicated to helping people communicate with confidence and lead with purpose.

The world's largest communication and leadership organisation

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation with over 280,000 members across 14,800 clubs in 148 countries. Since 1924, it has helped millions of people become more confident speakers, clearer thinkers, and stronger leaders through a simple proven method: regular practice in a supportive environment.

How it works

Toastmasters works on a learn-by-doing model. There are no lectures or courses. Members show up to fortnightly meetings and practise, with every role offering a different kind of growth opportunity.

Prepared Speeches

Members work through Pathways, delivering speeches that build specific communication and leadership skills. Each speech has a clear objective, a time limit, and is followed by personalised feedback from a trained evaluator.

Table Topics

Participants are given an unexpected question and have 1 to 2 minutes to respond. One of the most effective exercises for developing quick thinking, composure under pressure, and natural delivery.

Evaluations

Every speech receives a structured evaluation. Evaluators highlight strengths and offer specific, actionable suggestions for improvement. The feedback culture at Toastmasters is one of its most distinctive and valuable features.

Leadership Roles

Members take on meeting roles such as Toastmaster of the Day, General Evaluator, Language Evaluator, Timer, and Ah Counter, developing facilitation, observation, and leadership skills alongside speaking ability.

Pathways: the learning journey

Pathways is Toastmasters' online learning platform offering 11 specialised paths, each designed around a different area of communication or leadership. Members choose a path, complete projects at their own pace, and earn recognised credentials along the way.
